The Power of Schanda

I will not explain the term Schanda. Those who know it would understand anyway and the others would not see it regardless. The first recorded Schanda in the Torah was felt by Miriam who accused her brother for marrying a schwartze [BTW - I do not practice any racism - I am just translating the Hebrew the way people who understand what Schanda is would understand the text if they would not have Rashi to explain it to them otherwise.] Only divine intervention prevented this family affair from becoming a real mess, as G-d himself declared in a decisive way that it was not a Schanda and Miriam was ordered to stop making fuss.
So why do I have to write about it? Because the Schanda culture caused two very negative reactions within the Haredi (and MO) world.
When it was time to fight against Lubavitch and its False Messiah, the Schanda effect caused the Haredi Rabbis not to react. As David Berger atests, they refused to issue any unified one voice against the phenomena. They refused to fight and they are losing now ground all over without even noticing it. I was in a hotel this passover. All the Mashgihim were of this cult with se'udat moshia'h in the last day and all. And we all ate from their hekhsher without any hesitation. The only person that raised any fuss, spoke about halav aku"m and not about that all the food may have been behezkat tarfus.
The other negative reaction is of course the cover-up that I have discussed before on this blog. You cover-up for child molesters because you do not believe that this could be the case and when it is too late, you cover up because of the Schanda.
